Once upon a time, I was heaing towards 50 blissfully unconcerned with anything to do with age and suddenly, my body got a mind of its own and I felt like aging was something happening to me out of my control, and let’s just say, I wasn't thrilled.


If you’re around that age, you might know exactly what I'm talking about.


Turning 50: A Mixed Bag of Tricks


Feeling a bit blah, piling on the kilos (pounds), or misplacing your thoughts? You're not alone.


Society may say, “You’re past your prime.” But hold on! You’ve got options: Let age call the shots, or take the wheel and steer life your way.



Breaking Free from Age Limits


Think of your age (your chronological age) as just a number. Your biological age?

That’s what determines how you look and feel.


Ever met a 60-year-old who could run circles around a 40-year-old? That's a case of biological age reset where your chronological and biological ages don't match - that's what you want.


Cellular rejuvenation is the secret sauce here. It’s not just about feeling younger and living longer—it’s about freedom to live without aches, fatigue, and those pesky aging worries.

I’ve been there, done that, and created a simple yet effective little formula: ACT. It stands for Awareness, Connection, and Transformation.

Start with the basics and build a strong foundation you can add to later.


It’s all about mindset, emotions, and taking action.

Your body is like a bustling city with 37 trillion cells working non-stop. Some of the reactions happening every second are specifically for cellular rejuvenation - you want to make sure they're activated.


If you follow any of the steps in the ACT formula, you will activate cellular rejuvenation.


Be Aware of your Thoughts: Mindset is Your Secret Weapon


There are many studies that support the power of the mind - the power of your thoughts and perceptions.


Believe it or not, thinking positive thoughts about aging can add up to 7 ½ years to your life.


In other studies, changing perception of your daily activity from not exercising to meeting exercise recommendations can improve health.


And just as positive thoughts can improve longevity and health, the converse is true.


Just listening to negative words about aging can lead to people walking slower and acting older.


So my practical tips are:


  • watch your thoughts and words. Reframe negative thoughts about aging. For example, if you say “I can’t…”, immediately reframe by adding “yet”.
  • surround yourself with people who are positive about aging. Don’t let negative comments go unchallenged
  • show yourself love and gratitude for the work your cells do for you - say ‘thank you’ every time you remember.



Connect with your Feelings. Manage Stress


Your autonomic nervous system (the one that runs things in the background) has two settings: 'fight or flight' mode and 'rest and digest' mode.


If you want to keep your cells happy, you need to be in the 'rest and digest' or as I call it the 'rest, digest and rejuvenate' mode.


Get into the habit of being in the ‘rest, digest and rejuvenate’ state by using one or all of the following techniques every day.


  • Mindfulness techniques, like meditation or yoga
  • Breathwork - simple taking deep breaths activates the 'rest, digest and rejuventate' nervous system
  • Have an attitude where you see stressful situations or obstacles as challenges not threats. Start by saying ‘I’ve got this’ when you encounter a stressful situation.




Transform your Lifestyle.


Small tweaks can mean big gains. For women in their 50s,adding 4-5 healthy habits can add a decade of good living. Now, that’s something!


You don't need to do a 180 from where you are. Simply tinker with what you already do.


Here are 3 areas to start with:


  • Move More - go for a walk, lift something heavy, balance on one foot.
  • Eat Less - less calories, less sugar, less processed food
  • Go outside - watch a sunrise (or sunset), walk in a forest, plant a garden (or a pot plant)


Final Word


Feeling younger and more energetic doesn't have to be a far-off dream. With the ACT formula, you have the tools to make it happen.


It's all about living life on your terms, with vigor and well-being.
